Message from the School Director

Message from the School Director

Dear ISF Parents

Well, the final week is here and there is a lot of excitement around school as the holiday looms. As we look forward, I have sent a separate letter to all parents via email with regards to the new academic year. This highlights key dates and expectations for the new year and I would ask that everyone makes themselves aware of this letter.
On behalf of SABIS® and ISF,

I wish everyone a relaxing few weeks and I look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 27th August at 8.20am.

Beat the heat, stay cool, sign up for the ISF Summer School!

The ISF Summer School will take place this year from 2nd to 27th July for students in Kindergarten up to Grade 6. Students can sign up for one or several weeks for a half-day or full-day programme. In Kindergarten and Preschool children will practise using numbers as well as reading and writing in English and German. From Grade 1 they can choose between an academic programme and themed weeks. In the academic programme students work in small groups and practise Maths, English and German.

For the themed weeks we have a different theme each week. This year’s themes are:

Week 1: The World of Insects (Mr Richard)
During the first week students will explore the world of insects with our Art teacher, Mr Richard. They will make sculptures, draw insects, look at micro-environments and create landscape paintings with insects.
Week 2: The Need for Trees (Mr Richard)
During the second week students will discover why we need trees. They will draw trees, paint ecosystems, do printmaking with leaves and find out which animals live in trees.
Week 3: Energy (Mr Sundall)
In week three, our Science teacher, Mr Sundall, will look at different forms of energy. Students will also learn about conservation and the importance of energy. They will go on to produce energy and look at where energy is used day to day.
Week 4: The Solar System (Mr Sundall)
During the final week students will learn about the planets and make a model of the solar system. They will also discover more about the moon, tides and gravity.
In the afternoons all students enrolled in the full-day programme (including Kindergarten and Preschool) participate in fun activities such as games, art, music and sport as well as swimming in our pool. The highlight of each week is our field trip on Thursday afternoons to exciting destinations such as the zoo, the airport, a farm or local museums.

Hot lunch and snacks can also be purchased and Day Care will be available from 8:00 to 9:00 and 16:00 to 17:45 if required.
We hope you will be able to join our Summer School for some of the weeks to brush up on your academics or to learn more about these exciting themes. This year we have developed a very well-rounded and educational programme which we are sure our students will enjoy. An application form is available from the SABIS® Digital Platform, the ISF website (under Teaching and Learning) or from Reception.

Please also tell your friends and neighbours! ISF Summer School is open to non-ISF students. Students who would like to practise their English or German can join the academic programme.

We look forward to seeing some new as well as some familiar faces at Summer School this year!
